Meet Our Team
Derek Jones is the owner and founding broker of Legacy Mortgage Group. Derek started Legacy in 2001 after a bad refinance experience, and a strong desire to serve clients and ensure they had a superior loan experience to his.
A 1990 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Derek served his country honorably during the First Gulf War as an Infantry Lieutenant and Airborne Ranger. There and at West Point, he learned how to lead an organization, much how he leads his Legacy employees now. "You have to take good care of your internal customers (employees), if you expect them to take good care of your external customers. Business leadership and business success is simple really, if you apply the Golden Rule to your employees and your clients. Too often, though, that classic principle is violated, whether it is a small businesses or a giant corporation."
After finishing Active Duty service with the !st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX, Derek moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth where he met and married his wife Rebekah. There they settled in the Lewisville-Flower Mound area for many years when an opportunity to open an office in Tyler presented itself in 2004. That one office turned into 4 in East Texas, and 2 offices in Houston were added in 2008, and 2 offices in DFW added in 2009.
While hard work, integrity, and service to his clients are hallmarks of Derek's success, he is quick to credit his success to his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. "I spent many years trying to live my life without Him. My life, my family, my work would not have near the significance without the Lord. He is the source of my significance and my motivation to serve others, because He was and is the perfect example of a servant."
Derek is the proud father of 3 children - Lindsey (2001), Caleb (2004), and Ethan (2011) who keep him young, busy, and grounded. His hobbies include travelling with family, coaching football, and officiating high school & college basketball.
A native of Longview, Texas, Jason graduated from East Texas Baptist University. He has 12+ years in the financial and banking industry with companies New York Life, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Regions Financial Corp, and Legacy Mortgage Group. Through this experience, Jason’s goal for each of his clients is for them to have a superior loan experience and to apply the Golden Rule to each person.
Jason spends his free time playing golf, refereeing college and high school basketball, spending time on the baseball field coaching his 2 boys, and most importantly building a solid, Christ-like marriage with his wife Carrie Ann.
Krislyn Goodson was born and raised in the DFW area and graduated from Rowlett High School. She has been in the mortgage industry since 2006 and with Legacy Mortgage Group since 2009. She really enjoys loan processing and says working for Legacy has been an opportunity she thanks God for daily. When asked what she likes so much about it she said, “Legacy's goal is to provide excellent customer service to their clients, giving them a great loan experience, but also to ensure all of its employees are taken care of. I see evidence of that goal being achieved daily. Everyone is so kind and sacrificial to each other and our clients. I've never before worked at a place where everyone's desire within the company was to honor God in all that they do, and you can see it in their work ethic and how they treat each other. I feel everyone on the team is more than just a co-worker or even a friend. We're family.” Krislyn is married and has 1 child. Being the wife and mother that God has called her to be is her top priority. In her free time she enjoys reading, being involved in mission/volunteer work and traveling with family.
Sharon Harty is a loan processor for Legacy Mortgage Group. She began processing loans with Legacy in 2011. "I was drawn to this industry because of my love for administrative details, and a desire to use that gift to help others take positive financial steps." She loves working with our clients, and enjoys seeing the process from the application to the final closing. Sharon graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from California State University, Long Beach. She worked in the restaurant/food industry for several years, but eventually felt drawn to work in an administrative role. She loves numbers, spreadsheets, and keeping files organized. Loan processing is a perfect fit. She and her husband moved from California to Texas in 2006 and have enjoyed being Texans ever since. After their move, Sharon took time off work for several years to focus on raising her small children. Sharon and her family enjoy spending time together, taking trips back to California, and being involved in various activities at their church. Personally, Sharon enjoys making their house feel like a home, and stays busy keeping up not only with her children, but also the family pug, beta fish, and two guinea pigs! "I love working with the Legacy team, and being a part of the exceptional service we offer our clients."
Laura Martin has been a Loan Processor since 2001, previously working at several Mortgage Companies as well as at a Bank. She has been with Legacy Mortgage Group since March of 2013. Working with a Company where all the Employees put their faith, hope and trust in God and His Son makes Legacy her most comfortable job to date. She is happy to call Legacy her home. She has 2 grown daughters, 1 grandson and 3 granddaughters - - all who live within 10 miles of her (which she absolutely loves). She enjoys reading the Bible, doing crossword puzzles, and cooking for and spending time with her family.
Karen Williams joined Legacy’s team in 2013. She has been a small business owner with a background in accounting, bookkeeping, property management and office administration. A strong desire to learn have facilitated Karen’s successful transition to loan processing. Karen, her husband and daughter live in California and take full advantage of their beach community. Karen takes great pride in her daughter who will be attending one of California’s top universities next year. When asked what she likes about working for Legacy, Karen said, “the foundation of Legacy is based on honoring God, integrity, caring and building long term relationships; I love that these are not just words, but truly what Legacy is.”
